I had been on the road for hours when the sat nav finally announced we were nearly there, and I was starting to feel every mile in my back. The last stretch wound through quiet pine forests with patches of snow still clinging to the ground even though spring was supposed to be on its way. We were both tired and a bit cranky, but the promise of a proper bed kept us going. Then came the mishap that made us laugh later, though it did not feel funny at the time. I had carefully noted the number on the gate, but in the half light I misread it and we pulled up at the wrong cabin. A very surprised family waved from the window while we reversed out, cheeks burning, and found the right place fifty metres further along the track.

Rosvik sits in a peaceful spot near Pitea, surrounded by trees and a gentle slope down to the water. The cabin itself looked exactly like the photos, only better because it was real and waiting for us. A wide wooden deck wrapped around two sides, with a couple of chairs already pulled out as if someone knew we would want to sit straight away. Inside, the living room felt warm and lived in, with a big sofa facing a wood burner that was already laid ready to light. The kitchen was simple but well stocked with the basics, and the bedroom had crisp sheets that smelled faintly of pine from the airing cupboard.

We dumped our bags and stepped straight back outside to take it all in. The air was crisp and clean in a way you only notice after hours in a car, and the only sounds were birds and the occasional creak of branches. A small rowing boat was tied up at the little jetty just below the cabin, and I could already picture us trying it out the next morning, probably with more enthusiasm than skill. The light was soft and golden even though it was getting late, and I stood there for a moment just breathing it in.

There is something about arriving somewhere remote that makes you slow down whether you mean to or not. I had been so focused on the journey and the silly gate mix up that I had almost forgotten why we came. Standing on that deck, watching the water ripple, I realised I had been carrying a bit too much hurry with me. It was nice to let it go, even if only for a few days. We lit the fire, made tea in mismatched mugs, and sat outside until the chill finally chased us in. The first evening already felt like a proper reset, and I had a feeling the rest of the stay would be just as gentle.
